Three States, 45 grams and 10-ish Hours Later ...

Friday:

Apparently, all the cold drugs, and the breathing drugs do make the blood sugar skyrocket. No wonder I was all jitters yesterday, despite eating very, very low carb, probably keto level. I did a breathing treatment at 8:30, which was far too late, so I stayed up til 11:30, but clearly, I should have just went for an all-nighter. I laid on the couch, staring at the moonlit ceiling for hours, listening to the low-key bubbling of the aquarium filter.

I have, thus far, been without treatments today. I did take a few hits of the inhaler, and took the last antibiotic, but left the last prednisone in the bottle.

This morning, I was at 215.4. The brain definitely has some keto muscle memory that goes on because every time I go back to it, it's less uncomfortable. I am going to try to keep the dairy fairly low this time, just to cut back on the mucus and muck. I've been susceptible to eating a lot of cream cheese in the past, but I think I'll focus on other things this time. (She fully realizes she says that as she shows you a picture of a bagel half with cream cheese. That is NOTHING compared to the level of cream cheese she consumed before). Also, not messing with the "keto-friendly" bullshit foods, like Halo Top, or sugar-free candies, etc. They always lead to worse decisions, and I don't have time for that right now.

This was today's lunch:

I kicked ass and took a few names this morning, and did some food prep. Made a big pack o' bacon for salads, etc., boiled some eggs, made broccoli salad, threw a large pork roast in the slow cooker, cut up salad, and made the dairy-free dump ranch.

Not sure what's for dinner yet. Probably something simple, or if the pork roast is done by then, some of that, and maybe a veggeble.

I've had a hard time focusing on work today. Not sure why. Probably just the lack of sleep, but maybe I'll get a first or second wind here in a bit and get some shit done. We shall see.

I made a list today in my notebook of things I need to work on. I got the food prep part done, and then ran out of gas. Maybe tomorrow? Maybe tonight? We'll see. Probably not tonight. Catching up on some side-gig-transcription work, and probably going to attempt to go to bed fairly early.

Saturday:

Before embarking on the "carpeting" of the office space, there needed to be some caulking performed around the exterior of the room, where there was a significant gap between the wood and the floor. This space, in years past, has been used as a point of ingress and egress for assorted and very large speeders, pedes, and other critters of unknown unknowniness, meaning I never saw them, but I know they probably were in here. It was also a tremendous source of feet-freezing chilliness in the fall and winter months.

NO more! My beloved did the caulking. I followed behind for at least half the way, scraping, and filling in spots. Then, I thought, screw it. The carpet tiles will lay on top of it whether I scrape and tuck or not.

We had some brunchables (another salad, an egg, and another half bagel for me), and then eventually got ourselves all gussied up, and embarked on a three-state journey to achieve edibles. Mind you, I am no such aficionado of the cannabis-type substancii, so I was really just along for the ride. But, who knew there would be the day where one could go boutique pot shopping? Crazy shit! The amount of effort, design, and marketing creativity put into this place was pretty much A-level.

Anywhoo, we achieved a multitude of edibles, and some pre-rolled thingies, in an assortment of strengths. Mine are in Gummy format, and though they contain sugar, the one gram of carbage is not profound enough for me to NOT use them occasionally. More on that later ...

We were going to have some late lunch/early dinner at this place called Timbuktoo's, in Fremont, IN. However, we arrived, and they are no longer in business, which was very sad to see. So, we departed, ended up in Angola, and my beloved knew of another place he wanted to try. Ironically, the name AND atmosphere of which were very similar to the defunct establishment. We went to Timbers. It was odd. The atmosphere. It was like walking into the past, maybe early '80s. Probably 15 types of wood finishes, a bar with the prerequisite one very loud drunk person at 3:00 in the afternoon, and the encased checkout counter, those metal chairs, and one very dead buck head hanging on the wall. Yay.

The meals, though, totally erased the creepy factor. He had a "heifer"-sized NY Strip, fries and a salad. I had grilled salmon with some "Timbers" sauce, which was a butter sauce heavily infused with fresh garlic, and other herbs, some sauteed zukes, yellow squash, and onions, and a salad, all well within keto territory, and not a drop of bread was consumed by me, in roll OR crouton format. Yay!

There are no pictures of the adventure, because really, Ohio, Indiana, and southern Michigan pretty much all look the same, and we were well past Fall Leaves season in Michigan, so yeah. No.

After dinner, we just went for a nice drive in northern Indiana, northwestern Ohellio. Somewhere between Edon and Hicksville, we started seeing a HUGE cloud of smoke. We followed it all the way home, and then decided we just HAD to know what was causing it because to see it for THAT long, it had to be SOMETHING.

Once we discovered that it was just a controlled burn of field stubble, all was well, and we circled back to the homestead.

So, then, I decide to try one of the aforepurchased gummies. Well, HALF of one because I had no clue how they would affect me. I am such the lightweight. Half. Half of a 90mg gummy wiped me out. We watched a bit of The Irishman (yes, we're always behind when it comes to watching things), I had some snacks (a bit of broccoli salad, and some pork rinds and chip dip), and was just getting slower by the second. By 7:30, I was checking out. I went to bed.

And let me tell you about the Sleep of the Gods ... That is what I had. I woke up once, around 1:15am, and decided I still wanted more sleep. So, I slept. And slept. I woke up at around 5:15-ish, and I felt GOOD when I woke up. Apart from the all the sleep I achieved during the first week of being sick, which was NOT good sleep, this was amazing.

Still, however, I'm fairly sure I will reserve the consumption of gummies for special occasions, like when I have NOT been getting enough rest, because this is not a state of mind I enjoyed being in when I was awake for the first part of it. This is something you ingest perhaps 30 minutes before you want to go to bed, and then all will be well in the sleeps department!

There's quite a bit I wish to work on today (Sunday). I may start laying the carpet tiles. It's going to be a haphazard project because that's how I roll, but I hope to get at least PART of it done. I need to do some side-gig work. I need to do some work-work to make up for my lack of presence (mentally) on Friday, and then, whatever else may be on the list I made the other day.

Once that carpet tile is down, I can FINALLY get the gymnasium setup in place. The treadmill in the box back there behind me keeps calling my name, and the bench, and the rowing machine, plus we'll be moving the television in here that we haven't used in a while, and hopefully, it will still work, so I can have a space for doing some of my favorite DVDs.

I'm ready. I'm still not 100% health wise, but I still am ready.

All in all, a very good weekend, regardless of how quiet I may have been. I don't get out all that much, so when we go in different directions, I tend to just look around. I have lost my ability to focus and do yarn-type activities whilst in the car, but I intend to get that back. I miss it.

I'm pretty sure I'm done babbling now. I'll let you know how today goes, and show progress on the carpet tile if there is any.

Happy Sunday!
